About EcoQuest 2

Games for environmental education

Environmental education is becoming an important priority across Europe, yet many young people still lack meaningful opportunities to learn about sustainability and how they can take action. While a large majority consider environmental issues important, many do not feel equipped with the knowledge, skills, or opportunities to actively participate in building a more sustainable future. At the same time, educators and youth workers often face challenges such as limited time, guidance, and resources to integrate sustainability topics into their activities.

As youth work keeps evolving to address global challenges, it is important to provide engaging and accessible learning approaches that help young people understand complex environmental issues. However, traditional educational resources often struggle to combine sustainability education with practical skills such as critical thinking, systems thinking, and civic participation, which limits young people’s ability to turn awareness into action.integrate sustainability education with practical skills such as critical thinking, systems thinking, and civic participation, thereby limiting young people’s ability to translate

EcoQuest 2The “EcoQuest 2” project addresses this gap by developing innovative, gamified educational tools designed to make environmental education more engaging and accessible. The project offers educators/youth workers the skills and knowledge they need to help young people better understand sustainability challenges and explore ways to contribute to positive change.

The project brings together youth organizations and game-based learning specialists to create a comprehensive learning experience that combines digital and in-person activities. By using storytelling, a narrative video game, and an educational Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) game, the project encourages active participation. It allows young people to explore sustainability topics in an interactive and learner-centred way.

The project will deliver several results, including a narrative video game, an educational LARP game, a guide on green competences, activity sheets, and an educator’s manual. These resources will be tested by the project partners to ensure they are practical, engaging, and adaptable to different youth work contexts across Europe.
